Let’s Go To The Movies

As we head into a holiday weekend an activity that a lot of us like to do is to watch a DVD or go to the movies. In light of that I thought I could suggest some movies that do a great job of modeling grit and would be fun to watch this weekend.

My first suggestion is a movie that is in theaters in Penang right now that tells the amazing story of Olympian Louis Zamperini called “Unbroken” and I would highly recommend it.

Here is a list of some more movies from the past that you could possibly find on DVD or online that are great stories of grit and perseverance. You can click on the title link to learn more about the movie:

Cast Away: A FedEx executive must transform himself physically and emotionally to survive a crash landing on a deserted island.

Secret Life of Walter Mitty: When his job along with that of his co-worker are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

Rudy: Rudy has always been told that he was too small to play college football. But he is determined to overcome the odds and fulfill his dream of playing for Notre Dame.

October Sky: The true story of Homer Hickam, a coal miner’s son who was inspired by the first Sputnik launch to take up rocketry against his father’s wishes.

Amazing Grace: The idealist William Wilberforce maneuvers his way through Parliament, endeavoring to end the British transatlantic slave trade.
