Wednesday night meeting to go over items of importance that you
receive from the Residence Supervisors at the Friday morning weekly Dorm Staff meeting.
- On Friday night the dorm parents prepare a treat for
the dorm
students. The students have a later bedtime on
Friday and usually watch videos and/ or play games at this
time.
V.
Dorm Staff Meetings
The entire Dorm Staff meets
every Friday at 8:15 in Room #10. The Residence Supervisor will
inform you if the meeting will not be held or if the time of the meeting
changes. Bring your school calendar to plan upcoming events. The Residence Supervisors
will also meet with each dorm couple on a bi-weekly basis.

Snow Mountain, Butterworth

Sunway Lagoon,
Kuala Lumpur

VII. The School Nurse
The school nurse keeps track of eye exams, ortho
appointments, immunizations, and other medical needs.
If a child in your dorm gets a fever or an easily transmitted ailment,
such as pink eye, call the nurse. The student will stay at the infirmary
until the nurse tells you they will be Coming back to your dorm. Dorm parents
are responsible for minor scrapes and injuries. The school nurse is
very helpful, so ask many questions. Parents are responsible for
the routine medical and dental care of their children.
VIII. Day Off
Each dorm couple will have one day off a week. The dorm assistant will cover the dorm for the couple. Try to get
off campus and relax. Each semester you will also have a 5-day break. The
Residence supervisors will cover your dorm during this period of time.
IX.
Preparing for your dorm students to leave for
Christmas and end of the school year
break.
- Have the students clean and empty their drawers,
closets and bedside stands the Saturday before they leave.
- Remind them to check the “no name” clothes in the
laundry the last full week of school. After that, the clothes are given
away.
- Have the students pack clothes for the break. You may
want to email parents and ask them what to do with clothes that no longer
fit or that are not within the dress code for the school or dorm.
- Have Junior and Senior High students “check out.” The
secondary students have to get signatures from the nurse, librarian, and
teachers before leaving campus.
- The dorm student bedrooms must have everything taken
out of the closets, drawers, bedside stands and off the walls before leaving
campus. The clothes and whatever else the students have should be stored in
large green or clear storage bags. The Dalat cleaning ladies thoroughly
clean walls and all bedroom furniture while the students are gone.
X. E-Mailing
- Contact the Technology Department at Dalat to get
set up with the school network system
- You may also contact a local computer dealer at
Midlands Mall to get set up with a Jaring account or a different server.
- When emailing off campus, you must create an address
with SMTP. Contact the Tech Dept. if you have trouble.
- All emailing on campus can be done by typing in the
last name of the person and then the first name. Press enter and proceed to
type your message as usual.
- Students should email their parents on a weekly basis.
The dorm parents should keep the parents informed on a regular basis. Please
keep in mind “restricted access” countries (Mongolia, China, Vietnam,
Israel, etc.)
- Remember to keep your church family, friends, and
family updated with your ministry. Also remember that what you send to one
person can be forwarded to many people so write with discretion.
XI.
How to order new
curtains, bedspreads, and cushion covers for your dorm
- Choose the color and fabric for the project by looking
at the color scheme of the room.
- Decide what kind of curtains and rods you want by
getting a pattern book from the Home Ec. Room and choosing a design.
(Consider what the curtain will look like above the curtain rod, i.e. do you
want a ruffle, curtain hooks, or a cornice board)
- A rule of thumb for a curtain that is gathered is to
have a curtain twice as long as the window is wide.
- Go to Kamdar to look for fabric that suits your taste.
Things to write down include the width of the fabric, the price per meter
and ask for a sample. (Kamdar is a big fabric store just after you turn off
of Penang Road and have rounded the corner onto Burma. It is on your right
side. There is parking just a 100 meters past the store on the right)
- Let the Residence Supervisor know what you have found.
Get the ok to purchase the fabric and sew the curtains, OR
- Call Teh Brothers 227-0461. Make an appointment for
them to come to Dalat to measure your windows and make a proposal.
- The money for the project is based on the money budgeted the year
before for the project.
X. Vehicles
All dorm staff should
have keys for the vans and car. Please sign the van out and return by the
time designated. Record the mileage in the book inside the glove
compartment. Make sure the van is never below ½ full. The gas card is also
located in the glove compartment.
If you are involved in
an accident call Mr. Koo or Mr. Carlblom. Do not leave the scene of the
accident.
Please remember to read the Dalat Policy Handbook, Crisis
Handbook, Staff Handbook, and Residence Life Handbook (check the
Handbook page). If you have any
questions please write
