Brian & Valerie Weidemann
Residence Supervisors
Brian grew up in Hong Kong where his parents worked as missionaries. After attending British schools for most of his life, he came to Dalat as a dorm student for his senior year of high school. When Valerie’s parents moved from Canada to Indonesia, she came to Dalat for her four years of high school. After graduating from Dalat, Brian and Val married and attended Wheaton College in Illinois, USA. Valerie received a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education; she has worked as a writer and editor in Christian publishing and served on staff at their local church as the Early Childhood Director. Brian studied Physical Education at Wheaton College and then served in law enforcement for 10 years. In the spring of 2001, Brian and Valerie felt God’s call on their lives to minister to students at Dalat. That summer they moved to Penang with their children, Bethany and Ben, to serve as dorm parents. They ministered in Ziemer dorm from 2001 – 2005. In the spring of 2004, they moved into their current role as residence supervisors. They provide support for dorm parents and dorm students, as well as the auxiliary departments that support the boarding program (food services, housekeeping, laundry, security and guest house). Tim and Shauna Archer
Dorm Parents - Chandler Dorm
Born and raised in Michigan, USA, Mr. Tim Archer moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, to attend Bible college. After attending college, Tim enrolled in a technical institute to become a journeyman electrician, a job he has worked at for many years. A four year detour was working as a year-round camp director, fulfilling his love for Christian camping and being in the outdoors. Mrs. Shauna Archer was born on the prairies and graduated from Canadian Bible College in Regina, Saskatchewan, with a Bachelor of Religious Education degree. She has worked as a children’s pastor, camp director and mission’s assistant. The Archer’s met and married while at Bible College and are the parents of two teenagers - a son and a daughter. Julia Bieling
Dorm Assistant

Julia Beling has been the Dorm Assistant at Dalat since 2004. She moved to Penang from Michigan after completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Michigan-Flint. She has lived in a variety of places throughout my life and is herself a TCK. She has lived in Florida, Georgia, West Papua Indonesia, and Michigan. She enjoys working with people, especially youth. She has done Young Life, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Children’s ministry at First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris Michigan, and has taught art classes both privately and in school settings.

Larry and Kathy Bieling

Dorm Parents - Eckman-Smith Dorm

Larry and Kathy Bieling grew up in Michigan and met while attending the University of Michigan. They were married in 1973, and have lived in Michigan, Florida, Georgia, and Papua in Indonesia. Larry has a Masters degree in elementary education from Central Florida University and has taught a variety of grade levels and subjects in public, private, and international schools. Kathy has a Bachelors degree from the University of Michigan and has also taught a variety of grades and subjects in public, private, and international schools. Larry and Kathy have two adult children, Julia Bieling and Lauren (Bieling) West. They also were parents to girls from Indonesia while the girls attended high school and college in the States. David and Suzette Boshoff
Dorm Parents - Ziemer Dorm

Mr. and Mrs. David and Suzette Boshoff are the dorm parents of Ziemer dorm. They have two children of which one graduated from Dalat last year and the other is a sophomore at our school. They both graduated from the University of Pretoria where they completed their bachelor’s degrees. They completed five years of ESL teaching in Taiwan before which they were involved in managing their own businesses and also being personnel practitioners at a gold mine and a local authority in South Africa. Scott and Debbie Cairncross

Dorm Parents - Jackson Dorm

Mr. and Mrs. Scott and Debbie Cairncross are the dorm parents in Jackson dorm. They have three children. Sarah graduated from Dalat last year and is attending a university in the States, Bryan is in grade 8 and Tyler is in grade 2 at Dalat. They both graduated from Seattle Pacific University, in Seattle Washington, where Scott completed a Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science and Debbie completed a bachelors of arts degree in special/elementary education. Scott continued on in his studies to complete a Masters degree in Orientation and Mobility (Blind Rehabilitation). They previously made their home in Wheaton, Illinois. Nellie Koethler

School Nurse

Nellie Koethler comes from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada. She grew up in southern Saskatchewan. She came to know Jesus Christ as her Saviour when she was 12 years old. Her life has been a rewarding journey with God. As a nurse most of her work has been with students at Christian schools/colleges and 14 years in Neonatal Intensive Care with the premature and sick babies. She has worked in Malaysia for almost 12 years. She worked 4 years at Chefoo School in the Cameron Highlands. She returned to Canada but her love for Malaysia brought her back, this time to Dalat International School. This is her 8th year as school nurse at Dalat. She takes care of students who are sick on a daily basis, taking the dorm students to their doctor/dental appointments and advising staff and families on health issues. Tim and Vi Steinert
Dorm Parents - Jaffray Dorm

Tim and Vi Steinert are the dorm parents in Jaffray Dorm. They have three children, Aaron graduated from Dalat in 2005, Kael is currently a Senior and Miranda is a Freshman. They both hold Bachelors Degrees, and credentials with the Christian & Missionary Alliance. Together they were involved in Pastoral ministry for 20 years before coming to Dalat in 2004. They have a heart to support missionary families serving here in Asia as well as students who come from a variety of the Asia/Pacific countries.
