Elementary
Student Council is offered as an after-school club during 2nd and
4th quarters. Students learn about setting an agenda,
brainstorming ideas, problem-solving and voting, setting action items,
advertising, citizenship skills and teamwork. The four expectations of
student council members are; 1) talk to your classmates and friends about
activities they’re interested in, 2) bring their ideas and your ideas to our
meetings, 3) only one person speaks at a time, and 4) work together as a
team to plan activities.
Student
council plans a dress-up day each month, a locker-decorating activity, a
charity project, and an end-of-the-semester activity. Last semester students
planned two dressing up days. The first was a costume parade, where they
dressed up as their favorite cartoon or book character. The second was
“Twin/Triplet day” where students wer e
able to dress up the same as one or two of their friends. The locker
decorating theme
this year was Christmas, and some wonderful creativity was displayed.
Student council partnered with Charity and Compassion to collect toys and
school supplies for those less fortunate.
The last event of the semester was a movie afternoon where students watched
the
“Polar Express” with their pillows and stuffed toys. Fourth quarter is
bound to bring some more fun and exciting
events!
