Welcome to the wonderful world of reading and books! Dalat's Elementary School Library & Media Center is brimming with fabulous new reads, classic greats and the latest Newbery and Caldecott winners. Our Elementary library/media center is fully equipped with 20 laptop computers. We offer on-line tools including Web Safari (catalogue of our books), various eBooks, and Encyclopedia Britannica for all our students and their families. Please see the links referenced below to have fun exploring these wonderful on-line tools.

Our mission is to help you raise passionate readers that embrace technological tools that help prepare them for what the future holds.

We also have several subscriptions to magazines including: Focus on the Family's Clubhouse, Clubhouse Jr., National Geographic World Kids and Ranger Rick. Come on in and browse around! We're happy to help you in any way that we can.

Reading within their Lexile range will be most beneficial for them to grow in their reading skills. Your child's range is on the MAP testing results (K – 9). Look on the Lexile Framework of Reading website for guidance. Here is a videoexplaining this program.

ES Summer Reading Program: Dig Into Reading

All elementary students are encouraged to participate in the 2013 summer reading program “Dig Into Reading!”  Uncover a mystery, or bring up an eBook.  Excavate a new and exciting book on your favorite hobby.

Reading program brochures with all the details are available in both libraries, or you can click on this link to read and print it out for yourself.

Battle of the Books

Each year the library hosts a reading competition called Battle of the Books (B.O.B.) for elementary students in grades 1-4. Students enjoy reading while working in teams to read 24 books over 6 weeks.  We choose a new theme each year for this event. Last year’s theme was "Just Read It". This year’s theme is “Celebrate Good Books” and 22 March 2013 is the next “battle” where parents are invited to come cheer and see who wins. Of course, all our students are winners just by reading so many good books!

Here's a video clip to introduce this year's BOB Theme...Celebrate Good Books!

Surpass Safari

All of our books are searchable from school or home via Surpass Safari, our online catalog. Each patron is assigned a library log-in number. With this feature parents can log-in to their child's library account and see what materials are out on loan and the due date. Please contact the librarian if you need this number.
