Special Celebrations that connect us all
The Dalat community is a vibrant one and these events help keep us connected. Parents and siblings of students are welcome to come together on our campus and share with us in these special celebrations.
The week of graduation is full of activities and special events for the seniors, their parents, staff and invited guests. Detailed information about date, time, location, and formality of the event is provided to parents and staff.
Special events include Senior Chapel, Senior Wills, Senior Evening Tea, Awards Ceremony, Sports Banquet, Baccalaureate and Commencement.
Track and Field Day
Each year the elementary school participates in a sports day on campus, organized by the PE department with the help of parent and staff volunteers. The middle and high schools participate in a track and field competition which takes place off campus usually at the USM Track and Field Stadium on Penang Island.
The day is filled with races of all distances and all the traditional field events. Students are separated into four teams and compete individually and as a team just like in the Olympics.
The Junior Senior Banquet (JSB) is held in April and is sponsored by the Junior Class in honor of the Senior Class and their sponsors. The event is held at a local hotel ballroom and features a scrumptious dinner and entertainment provided by the Junior Class.
This entertainment includes photos of all the individual Seniors as they grow up, skits, music, and tributes that speak words of encouragement and blessing. JSB is one of Dalat’s richest and most treasured traditions.
Food and Fun Fair
Each year, the PTO puts together various community events including the Food and Fun Fair. They provide opportunities for the extended Dalat community to come together for food, games, and other activities.
Specific dates and ways to be involved will be announced through PTO meetings, the Dalat News and daily announcements.
National Honor Society
Dalat International School is an internationally recognized branch of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and National Honor Society (NHS). They exist to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.
During second semester qualified students are inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) for grades 7-8, and the National Honor Society (NHS) for grades 11-12. Parents are invited to attend.

Spiritual Emphasis Week & Mission Emphasis Week
Spiritual Emphasis Week (SEW) and Missions Emphasis Week (MEW) are coordinated by the spiritual life director. These theme weeks take place at the beginning of second and fourth quarters. Special speakers are invited and a variety of activities are planned around the theme that focus the entire community on their personal spiritual lives and on others around them.
There are sessions during the days and evenings. The entire Dalat community is welcome to attend.
Dalat students of all levels communicate imaginative stories to delighted audiences several times a year. Performances usually include two elementary musicals, two or more middle school dramas, and two major high school dramatic productions, one of which is often written by a team of student authors coached by a staff member.
Students learn the disciplines of memorization, public speaking, and self-expression.
The middle and high school bands and choirs perform after the first quarter in October, at Christmas, midway through second semester in March, and at the end of the school year in May. The high school concert in May is held in conjunction with the Fine Arts Festival. Recitals in the spring provide solo and chamber music opportunities for students of piano, voice, and other instruments.
The high school band and choir usually participate in performance tours in alternating years. These tours involve travel to other cities and may take 3-5 days to complete.
Shortly after the beginning of the school year the school opens its doors to all students and their parents to visit classrooms, dorms, and meet teachers. A meal is shared together. All Dalat families are encouraged to attend.
Every year at the end of the first semester Dalat holds its annual fundraiser to make improvements to the school and our children’s education and environment. All parents, students and staff are encouraged to participate.
The High School Student Council hosts a Christmas Banquet for all high school students in December. The occasion is semi-formal and students may choose to ask dates.
Elementary and Middle School present musicals at Christmas and in May. These fun dramas include acting, music, and choreography. All parents are invited to attend these events.
Battle of the Books
Students spend several weeks working in teams to read books assigned to their grade level. A competition is held asking students to answer questions about the books and prizes are given to teams.
Elementary School Reading Fair Week
During the school year, elementary classes will host a special reading fair week with activities and special lessons.
