Staff Quotes 2007

Greg Stenlund

   HS Math Teacher

   8 years at Dalat

Dalat is a great place to teach because of our motivated and hardworking students.  Class management and discipline are issues that I never deal with on a regular basis.  I get to teach, mentor, coach, and disciple kids in a Christ centered environment.  I truly believe Dalat is one of the best places to teach on our planet.

Shauna Archer

   Dorm Parent

   1 year at Dalat

Coming from cold Canadian winters, I have not found it a hardship to live on this beautiful, warm tropical island. I enjoy the cheap but delicious local food and the inexpensive phone rates to call friends and family back in North America. The fact that most people speak English has made our transition to Malaysia very easy.

Dean McClary

   HS Science Teacher

   10 years at Dalat

Being at Dalat is like having each course you teach full of the top 10% achieving students from a typical North American public school setting.  Dalat is big enough to offer a wonderful array of extra curriculum activities for all students but small enough that a senior knows many elementary students by first name.  Having visited all the major South East Asian cities since we first came to Dalat in 1996, you just can't beat Penang for quality of living. This setting maximizes the positives of expatriate living and minimizes the negatives.

Larry Chinn

The faculty and staff at Dalat work together as a team! Everyone is committed to serving the students and being supportive of our community. Dalat feels like home! My family plans to stay for a long time.

Kerry Mahoney

   HS Music Teacher

   5 years at Dalat

Teaching at Dalat provides the opportunity for me to be on the front lines of discipleship in Asia. I have a strong sense of fulfillment in the cross-cultural relationships I develop with my students and my Expatriate and National staff colleagues.

Michael Holden

   MS Math / MS Coordinator

   6 years at Dalat

Penang is a fantastic place to live and work.  Dalat is filled with great students and staff.  The community which is fostered encourages and sharpens me.  I have been involved with many different extra-curriculars which has provided me with many opportunities to minister to students on a deeper life-on-life level!  As for Penang, it's not a place with grass huts and dirt roads.  Penang is the perfect mix of Asia and Western living.  The merging of cultures provides amazing diversity (especially food) which I can enjoy with my mocha from Starbucks (10 min from school)!

Vi Steinert

   Dorm Parent

   3 years at Dalat

It provides an awesome opportunity for our children to experience living crossculturally, which many only dream of.  We get to meet some amazing people who are "called to serve" in this part of the world.  Working at a school that strives for a high standard of excellence is very rewarding and personally challenging.  Living in such a diverse cultural community provides a rich experience, bringing new understanding and perspective to history and world affairs.

Val Weidemann (Alumni)

   Dorm Parent / Resident

   Supervisor

The community life is the best aspect of working at Dalat. As we've lived in Penang over the past six years, the school staff have become our extended family. We enjoy a sense of unity and partnership that I've not experienced anywhere else. I really love the people I work with and appreciate how each team member contributes in such unique and significant ways to our ministry. I also feel very thankful that I can raise my children in such a close-knit supportive community that is international and diverse in flavor. My children have adopted aunts and uncles and dorm brothers and sisters as their own, all from different countries and backgrounds. Raising our children to be multi-cultural and sensitive of the needs of the world was a motivating factor in our decision to move overseas. I feel that Dalat is one of the best places to help my kids develop a Christian world view in the context of great cultural diversity.

Rob Nollan

Without question, my first year working at Dalat has been the best experience of my 18-year teaching career.  The people here are far and away the most supportive faculty, administration and support staff I've ever been around!
