Even
though Dalat is a relatively small international school scene, we are very
fortunate to have some high quality coaches who are willing to volunteer
their time for several hours each week to see that interested & motivated
students receive quality coaching with a spiritual emphasis. Currently we
are indeed fortunate to have Lisa Munson in charge of our Volleyball
program. Lisa spent many years going to school right here at Dalat & during
her sporting career was chosen to play for the Penang State team under Mr. Chee who incidentally is still coaching at Union School to this very day!
Lisa is
accompanied by Dorm parent Shauna Archer who also enjoys coaching softball.
Volleyball enthusiasts meet for about 5-6 weeks in Semester 1 & in 2008 we
are excited to be able to join the MSSPP U18 Girls Volleyball competition
for the 1st time in many years! Lisa & Shauna have been working
with this particular group of girls for a couple years now. Our U15 girls
competed in U15 MSSPP in March 07 & also participated in a local tourney in
Nov 07. MSSPP is short for Majlis Sukan Sekolah Sekolah Pulau Pinang which
is essentially Penang’s Zone & State playoffs.
The team
meets 2-3 times each week. This particular season the volleyball &
basketball teams are sharing this particularly talented bunch of athletes as
many are involved in basketball, volleyball, softball or any combination
thereof. Sports provide a good workout, allow bonding with team mates, and
help relieve the stress that high school students build up throughout the
school day. Dalat International School realizes the beneficial effects
of physical activities and attempts to provide their students with
opportunities to excel outside of the classroom. One of the sponsored
Dalat sports programs is Girls Volleyball. This program provides the gals
with about 15 weeks of volleyball skill building and games.
