Child Safety

Dalat International School is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where all students are protected, valued, and able to thrive.

The Core Commitment

Dalat prioritizes the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of students while respecting cultural diversity and confidentiality.

Specialized Safety Teams

Responsibility is divided among three specific groups to ensure professional handling of all issues:

  • Child Safety Office (CSO): Oversees the entire policy, Child Safety Team and Response Team and acts as the primary contact for reports, response and closure.

  • Child Safety Team (CST): Focuses on the "front end"—prevention and training.
  • Child Safety Response Team: Handles the "back end"—gathering information and responding to formal concerns.

Dalat’s Active Partnership with the Child Safety & Protection Network (CSPN)

Dalat International School is an active member of the Child Safety & Protection Network (CSPN), a global network of international schools, mission organizations, and child-focused agencies committed to safeguarding children and strengthening child safety practices worldwide.

Our Child Safety Program outlines how we prevent harm, promote healthy relationships, and respond responsibly to concerns, always prioritizing the well-being and dignity of children.

Reporting Protocols

The school maintains a "low threshold" for reporting, encouraging anyone to come forward even if they are unsure if a situation is serious.

  • Direct Contact: Reports go to the CSO or school administrators.
  • Confidential Channel: Email -  hotline@dalat.org
  • Crucial Rule: Community members are strictly instructed not to investigate concerns independently.

Hear from Shawna Wood, Dalat's Head of School, as she shares about our commitment to providing a safe learning environment for our students.

Prevention & Education

The school mitigates risk through mandatory training and clear boundaries:

  • Staff/Volunteers: Annual training and a signed code of conduct are mandatory
  • Students: Receive age-appropriate safety education every year
  • Parents: Encouraged to partner with the school and model respectful behavior. Parents also sign a code of conduct
  • Environment: Specific guidelines cover classrooms, boarding, school-sponsored travel, and extracurricular activities

Responding with Care

When a concern is raised, the school follows a clear, step-by-step internal process outlined in the Child Safety Policy, grounded in evidence-based best practices.

This process does not replace or override Malaysian law or any legal proceedings. It is an internal response focused on student protection and procedural fairness for all parties. Information is shared strictly on a need-to-know basis.
