If I Had To Do It Over Again

2014ArtHdr-Nov14-OverAgain

Author Dr. Tony Campolo writes about a sociological study in which people over the age of 95 were asked one question: “If you could live your life over again, what would you do differently?” It was an open-ended question, and a number of answers came from these eldest of senior citizens. The study revealed three answers that consistently reemerged and dominated the results of the study. These three answers were:

  • If I had it to do over again, I would reflect more.
  • If I had it to do over again, I would risk more.
  • If I had it to do over again, I would do more things that would live on after I am dead.**

So let’s take heed from those who have gone before us. We get to live this life only once, and so let’s reflect more, risk more, and do more that lives on. But that will only happen if we make it happen. We have to prioritize our lives so that we can slow down and reflect, muster up the courage to take more risks, and pursue opportunities that leave a legacy. It will not happen on its own. It will not happen unless we make it happen. Remember, our theme this year can be stated another way – making the important things, the important thing. So this weekend make it happen: reflect more, risk more, and invest more in things that matter.
