About To Begin

In the last month or so of the school year, Dalat is busy in both finishing well but also taking steps to be ready for the coming school year. It makes for a pretty hectic pace. This actually flows over into the summer as a lot happens during those two months in preparation for the first day of school in the “fall.”

One of the steps taken each summer break is the changes we make to our facilities. In the past, we have been able to do all of our major facility changes over the break so that there was very little disruption to the school year (last year’s gym floor was unfortunately an exception to that). In previous years, we have completely renovated the middle school, put a covering on the outdoor court, turned a dorm area into a new elementary wing, and built four new classrooms for the ES division all during the break, and completed before students and parents came back for school.

This year, however, it will be a little bit different. We are embarking on developing our campus in new and exciting ways. To do that, we will be starting with a building project this summer that will carry over into the new school year. Over the break, we will be tearing down the current counseling and special services building, and in its place, building a new media center that will house a library, technology classrooms, counseling, special services, and four new science labs.

This is an exciting time, but with change comes many questions and Dalat needs to do a good job of communicating how we will go about providing an excellent and safe experience at school while constructing this building.

One step we will take to communicate the plans for this new building is through a meeting next Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the chapel. At the meeting we will show the plans for the building, discuss the construction of the building, explain the steps we are taking to ensure safety for our students, and allow for questions to be asked about this first phase of renovating our campus. For those who cannot attend the meeting, we will be communicating the information in other ways to you (email, Dalat News, etc.).
