The second-grade curriculum helps students count, read, and write numbers up to 1,000. Students add and subtract with and without regrouping and solve real-world problems using a variety of methods. Place value, base ten notation, math fact fluency, measurement, and analyzing geometric shapes are also studied.
Students learn to count, compare, and problem-solve, and to name, draw, and describe two- and three-dimensional shapes. They learn how to read and write multi-digit numbers and practice mental math strategies. The structured framework of concepts and skills allows for in-depth understanding with problem-solving being central to this. Individual and cooperative hands-on activities, extensive practice, and journaling consolidate comprehension.
