AP Chemistry is the equivalent of a first-year college general chemistry course. As such, the course is suitable only for high school students who exhibit high levels of commitment, motivation, and academic maturity. Students cultivate their understanding of chemistry through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics such as atomic structure, intermolecular forces and bonding, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, stoichiometry, solutions, and equilibrium.
The course provides students with an in-depth understanding of fundamental chemical concepts and builds strong computational skills. It fosters proper lab techniques and safety. Labs provide students with opportunities to physically manipulate equipment, make observations, and draw conclusions from experimental data. Students must take the AP Chemistry exam in May.
