AP Chinese Language & Culture

AP Chinese Language and Culture is comparable to fourth-semester college/university courses in Mandarin Chinese as a first language. This course prepares students to demonstrate their level of Chinese proficiency with ongoing and varied opportunities to further develop their proficiencies across the full range of language skills within a cultural frame of reference reflective of the richness of the Chinese language and culture.

Twenty required topics will be studied, cultural presentations will occur weekly, and students will narrate a story using a minimum of 250 words. They will frequently and independently practice listening, writing email responses, and conversation.

Mid-year, students will start preparing for the AP exam using online practice questions. The last month’s work will focus on past AP exams and review materials, with higher expectations prior to the official exam. Students will be expected to take the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam in May.
