Social Studies 5 is an exploration of themes such as geography, change and continuity, economy, and government. The course begins with building foundational map reading skills to develop a geographic awareness of the world. In the first semester, students will explore the five themes of geography and how they influence our understanding of the world. Students will also explore fundamental economic principles and ways in which economies are shaped by geographic and human factors.

Through exploring Ancient Rome and Europe in the second semester, students will examine why societies create and adopt systems of governance and how they address human needs, rights, responsibilities, and citizenship. Students will engage with the content through class discussions and research projects.
