Social Studies 7 gives students an overview of history, beginning with the Roman Empire, followed by the Middle Ages, and continuing chronologically up to modern times. Although primarily focused on Europe, students learn how events in one part of the world impact people in many other places. Students learn how differing social structures, political systems, economic systems, and belief systems emerge and change over the course of history. References to the Bible occur frequently and naturally throughout discussion of these topics.

Students evaluate information sources and analyze the causes and effects of conflicts and social change. They identify patterns across historical events and continue developing the skill of finding specific evidence to support their claims. The course aims to give students increased understanding of the people and issues in the modern world, so that they can show respect and understanding when engaging with people of other cultures.
