Connections 6

Connections focuses on the rapidly changing needs of young adolescents. This class is especially sensitive to the developmental struggles of middle school students for identity while they balance academic achievement, social competence, and community involvement. The class covers four broad topics through the year.

Quarter 1 focuses on students’ interests, abilities, and educational goals. Students will study research-based strategies for achieving goals. Students then learn the relationship between thoughts and emotions, and methods for staying in control when they experience strong emotions in the second quarter. In Quarter 3 students learn ways to recognize and respond appropriately to prevent bullying and harassment. In the final quarter students work towards maintaining healthy relationships and dealing with conflict.
