To all our new families, welcome! We can’t wait to meet you and get to know you.

The campus is buzzing this week with the energy of 705 students beginning a new school year. We have students from 23 different passport countries. We are also excited to welcome 11 new staff members and over 40 brand new families to the Dalat community. Please take some time to welcome and meet these new additions.

On the first day of school, one of the middle school students commented, “something’s different this year.” There are actually many things different this year! The most noticeable is that the first day of school was face-to-face rather than online. We are so grateful to have everyone here and to resume so many of our activities.

Many of the things that are different from last year are actually those that were put on hold during COVID. We’re excited to bring back so many of the “fun” parts of school: sports, recess, field trips, group work, hands-on learning, and after school clubs.

When you are on campus, you may also notice the new soundproofing in Sandycroft, the remodeled learning lab, and a number of minor facilities improvements. Actually, one of the biggest differences is that parents are once again welcome to visit campus! We are already enjoying spending time together on the beautiful Dalat campus.

We have chosen “Reconnect” as our theme for this year. I’ll share more about this in upcoming articles, but foundationally, we want to focus on rebuilding our connections with one another. All of the welcoming hugs, handshakes, and high fives on the first day of school felt a bit awkward, but they were the norm a few years ago, and we want them to become the norm again. We’re excited to really put our time into rebuilding and reconnecting this year and so grateful for the opportunity to strengthen our community.
