Taking time to celebrate helps us reflect and encourages an overall attitude of gratitude for what we have.

Why do humans celebrate? A part of the human experience is participating in a number of celebrations. This might be as simple as a birthday party and as elaborate as a fancy wedding. There are many celebrations throughout our lives and one of the main reasons we do them is because they are fun and they give us the chance to feel good about ourselves.

Celebrations serve a number of other purposes as well. Taking time to celebrate helps us reflect and encourages an overall attitude of gratitude for what we have. Moments of celebration help us be more mindful of what has been accomplished and can actually boost our well-being. Finally, celebrations help us appreciate life and give us something to look forward to. For those reasons, celebrations build resilience when we are facing challenging times as they give us the confidence that good things are coming.

This year has been a hard one for our students in so many ways. I am proud of the Dalat students and how they have persevered through this year. They have learned a lot because of the challenges they have faced and accomplished a lot at the same time. For that reason it is important for us to take time to celebrate this year with them.

Unfortunately, our current situation in Penang makes celebrating a bit difficult. When we celebrate we like to do it together, but that has become almost impossible. Dalat, however, is going to do the best we can (thanks to our awesome web master Mr. Roberts). In the coming week you will see celebrations we would normally do together taking place digitally on our website. As a community you are encourage to look for the following “celebrations”:

  • Starting Friday (May 21st) we will be revealing our tribute pages for each senior. Check back each day to see a new set of seniors being honored. You can view our first batch here!
  • The middle and high school awards program has been posted online and celebrates students who have won course awards, flagship awards, major awards, as well as other forms of recognition. You can see all those awards here.
  • Later next week we will be posting videos of our elementary, middle school, and high school music concerts. You do not want to miss seeing these videos!
  • Our visual arts program will be posting amazing artwork by our high school students. Take a peek at ES/MS Art here and HS Art here.
  • Next Thursday we will celebrating the graduation of our seniors with a video which will be posted at 7:00pm and our community is encouraged to watch and celebrate with our senior students and their families.

In all honesty, it is a little disappointing to not be able to celebrate together as we normally do, but it is important that we celebrate this year as best we can and we are not going to let the pandemic stop us from doing so.

So join us and let’s celebrate!
