Back to School

Pencils? Binder? Calculator? Keys to the Ferrari? No, wait...to help relieve a little of that first-day back at school anxiety here are a few friendly reminders from each of our school divisions.

Elementary School Notes

Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year!

I am so excited to be launching a new school year and beginning my second year as part of the Dalat community. The teachers, TAs, staff, and faculty have been busy preparing for school to begin next Wednesday. I hope that your family experienced some valuable rest and relaxation over the summer holiday. I look forward to getting to know our elementary families more this year and continuing our journey together.

As your family prepares for school again, please note the following information:

Students need to bring:

  • A spare uniform
  • Refillable water bottle
  • An umbrella

Please make sure your child’s uniforms still fit well, including the PE uniform, and are neat and tidy. If you need to order new uniforms, please schedule an appointment with our uniform store.

Students must wear sports shoes or sandals with straps. On PE days, they must wear sports shoes.

The campus will open at 8 AM and close at 5 PM. Students may enter their classrooms at 8:15. Students who arrive later than 8:20 will be marked tardy. Please kindly move away from classroom windows following the morning bell so that students can give their full attention to starting the school day.

Students are dismissed by 3:10 PM, and parents are expected to pick up their children on time.

After school, our playgrounds are open, and students must be within sight and hearing of a parent or designated adult while playing. They may not play on the playground until a parent arrives. Older siblings are not allowed to supervise younger children. The library is open after school; however, elementary students may not be in the library without adult/parent supervision. In the same way, children should not play on the playground when their parents are in the library.

Please pay close attention to the emails from your child’s teacher. They will communicate specific information for the first day/week of school. Next week, look out for our Kid Interest Club (KICs) sign-ups for children in Grades 1-4. Your child’s homeroom teacher and next week’s Dalat News will provide more information and a sign-up form.

Preschool parents are required to physically drop off and pick up their children at their classrooms. Preschool parents may park on the lower campus. Additionally, we ask that preschool parents remain outside the patio gates during drop-off and pick-up times to help ease the transition for the children and minimize crowding around entry and exit points.

For students in Grades K and 1, please use the lower campus drop-off and pick-up area. Grades 2-4 should use the upper field drop-off and pick-up point to reduce congestion at the lower campus drop-off.

If your child is unable (due to illness, etc.) to come to school, please email attendance@dalat.org. Your child’s attendance will be marked as a parent excused absence. Refer to the Student-Parent Handbook for more details on absence policies.

If you have questions, please contact me. I am looking forward to another great year at Dalat!

The middle school staff is busy planning and preparing for the first day of school on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. We are really excited to finally be in our new middle school building! Schedules are found on PowerSchool, and students may look ahead of time at their class schedules.

To be fully prepared, please take note of the following items:

A reminder that the Middle School will be starting at 8:15 am this year! Our earlier start will help stagger the arrival times among the different divisions. Please make sure that middle school students are in their classes ready to begin by 8:15 am! Thank you.

  • Stationary – pencil case, pens, pencils(no mechanical pencils), eraser, ruler, colored pencils, glue stick, scissors, highlighters. (Grade 7 students will need yellow, orange, pink, green, and blue colored highlighters for their Language Arts Class).
  • Reusable Water Bottle – plastic or metal only. (no glass water bottles).

The school will provide class notebooks and an expandable folder for organization.

If you need a paper copy of your schedule, please go to the white tables on the rooftop across from the MS Office to collect it. We will start the day by going to SAT groups at 8:15 on Wednesday morning. Your SAT teacher will email you an introductory letter and the location of your meetings. Locker assignments are attached to this email; please take the time to find your locker number for the first semester. Below is the schedule for the first day of school.

Below is the schedule for the first day of school:

  • Parents, please notify the school of your child’s absence by emailing attendance@dalat.org if they are going to be away from school.
  • Uniforms are to be worn on the first day of school. For those entering Grade 5, a reminder that students need to wear the Middle School uniform. If you need to purchase more uniforms, please refer to the Dalat News to access the appointment scheduler.
